You take it, you finish the tub, you buy another one, and nothing in your morning ever reports back. That is the honest problem with almost every supplement on the market. AG1 is one of the few that went and measured: four gold-standard clinical trials, randomised, placebo-controlled and double-blinded.ᵃ⁻ᵈ
Think about how you decide whether a supplement is working. You cannot. There is no moment where anything tells you the magnesium landed or the B12 did not. So you go by feel, and feel is a terrible instrument for something that moves slowly and invisibly.
What people do instead is add. A bottle for energy in January, one for gut health in March, one for the thing a podcast mentioned in June. None of them ever gets removed, because removing one would require knowing it was not doing anything, and nobody ever knows that.
So the honest question is not whether a supplement makes you feel different. It is whether anyone bothered to check what it does when feeling is taken out of it.
Most of the supplement market is sold on its ingredient list. AG1 put the finished formula, not the ingredients, through four clinical trials that were randomised, placebo-controlled and double-blinded.ᵃ⁻ᵈ That last part matters more than it sounds: in a double-blinded trial neither the participants nor the researchers know who is drinking the real thing, so nobody can talk themselves into a result.
They publish the trial designs next to the findings, which is rare enough to be worth naming. You can read how many people were in each one and for how long, in their own footnotes, at the bottom of this page.
We invest in clinical trials because it's the only way to show that AG1 truly works. In the supplement industry, this level of research is rare.
AG1, drinkag1.com/learn/research/scientific-researchWhat the four trials looked at
ᵃ Triple-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled parallel trial in 105 healthy adults aged 20 to 59 over 12 weeks. ᵇ Double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled 2-week cross-over trial in 20 active adults aged 19 to 37. ᶜ Double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled 2-week cross-over trial in 24 healthy adults with occasional GI distress aged 26 to 59. ᵈ Double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled cross-over trial in 16 healthy adults aged 18 to 42 over 8 hours. AG1's own note: the studies were conducted on a similar version of a continually evolving formulation, and transferability is based on comparable ingredients and amounts.
This is AG1's own figure from the bioavailability trial. The grey line is the placebo group. The green line is thiamine in the blood of people who drank AG1, measured at 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes and then out to eight hours.ᵈ
It is the closest thing the category has to a receipt. It does not tell you how you will feel on a Tuesday. It tells you the vitamin arrived, which is the part you were never able to check on your own.
Bacterial cultures are the easiest thing in a supplement to put on a label and the hardest thing to deliver, because most of them do not survive the journey. AG1 tested whether theirs reach the gut alive, which is the only version of that claim worth anything.

What people reported
↡ Data on file, 2023. Single-arm third-party study in 35 healthy adults aged 25 to 48, assessing the self-perceived effects of AG1 over three months. The study was conducted on a previous version of AG1's continually evolving formulation. AG1 states the results transfer to the current formula because of no or scientifically negligible changes in supporting nutrients, the same routine and a comparable taste.
These four are not from the blinded trials. They come from a single-arm study, which means everybody knew they were drinking AG1, and what was recorded is what people said about themselves. That is a weaker kind of evidence than the charts above and it belongs in a different box, so here is the box.
70+ ingredients, and AG1 describes it as the combined effect of 15 supplements in one.⬥ The five bacterial strains are named rather than hidden behind a blend: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM, Bifidobacterium lactis HN019, Lactobacillus casei LC-11 and Lactobacillus plantarum LP-115.
⬥ AG1's own comparison (2025) is against individual supplements in comparable amounts typically sold at retail.
In AG1's own words
This section is lifted from AG1's own site, where they say it about themselves. A brand that publishes what its product will not do is easier to believe about what it will.

That is the whole offer, stated plainly. AG1 will not give you a moment where the vitamin announces itself, because no supplement can. What it has instead is a set of measurements that were taken with the feeling removed, and the trial designs printed underneath them.
